Go vegetarian in Amiens!

Travelling to France, a country with nearly no vegetarians. But of all places we found, through couchsurfing, a place to sleep at people who are interested in organic food. The fairtrade logo was shining on the coffee, in the bookcase we found vegetarian cooking books and they don’t ride a car, so we could borrow bicycles to see the city.

With our laptops, cameras and the guide ‘Ou déguser la cuisine végétaríenne?’ we visited the city. Our goal: finding some organic food. Our host showed us a little shop with only organic food; it is the only organic shop in the town, he told us. In France they don’t eat a lot of vegetarian food, it is not like the Netherlands where people can find in almost every restaurant vegetarian dishes on the menu.

In the evening we passed the McDonalds and found a nice place to eat vegetarian pasta. But we still aren’t sure how organic the vegetables were. We tried to ask it at the bar, but only ordering the food was really hard because of the language, let alone talking about the source of the vegetables. Conclusion: vegetarian food and speaking good English aren’t very common in Amiens. A thing our host already told us sadly this afternoon…
