Good to know first: the flow of money in organic food rose 8,8 percent in 2010 and the trend seems to go on. Germany has together with Denmark and Swiss the biggest market in organic food. But the Netherlands has the highest growth rates for switching to organic food. Nowadays two percent of all the food is organic in the Netherlands and especially the eggs are namely organic. Together Dutch people spend 881 million Euros on organic food!
Another interesting point is that most of the organic food is sold in the supermarkets. 48% is sold in the supermarket, while there is a decline in the sale of organic food in the special organic shops. Before they sold 35% of all the organic products and now it is declined to 32%. Interesting, but good. It means that more and more people are buying organic products and not only people with a nuanced lifestyle. Organic food seems to become the new norm!
With these figures and travelling to Denmark after our visit to Berlin, we have high expectations of finding organic food over there!
Oh and I found these facts in an article from the Dutch magazine Vrij Nederland. This article might be interesting: http://www.vn.nl/Archief/Samenleving/Artikel-Samenleving/Groene-sprookjes-5-mythen-over-biologisch-eten.htm

Albert:
Buying in supermarkets instead of in organic food shops, is ofcourse good. On the other hand it leads to large scale business where profit, production and consumption are the main goals... -
